Here is a list of what's available right now for your fall garden. Our greenhouse is filling up so come on down and check it out. Hours are Fridays from 9-12 we are also going to be selling at our tree planting event on November 20th. If those hours do not work for you give email me and we can work something out.

November 20th, put it on the calendar!
Wrigley Garden is the place to be on November 20th. We will be planting trees for our neighbors, having a fall/ winter plant sale and our Baker Creek Seeds will be available for sale.
Come on down!
All of our volunteers will be entered into a raffle to win 4 turkey dinners provided by the Wrigley Albertsons on Willow Street.
Students who volunteer can receive credit for community service hours.
In addition to planting trees, we will be unveiling the Wrigley Garden mural created by our very own local artist Lisa Wibroe. This was also a part of our grant from the Neighborhood Partners Program.
Many local businesses are supporting this event: Albertsons, El Paisano Market, Northgate Supermarket, Shortnin Bread, Starbucks, and Walgreens. More will be joining soon!
We look forward to seeing all of you on November 20 to continue to help this neighborhood blossom.

Plant Sale This Saturday!
Plant Sale at The Wrigley Garden Nov. 7
Fall is planting time in southern California, so get growing at the Wrigley Garden plant sale on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 9 to noon at the beautiful double-lot garden at 1950 and 1960 Henderson Avenue in Long Beach. Choose from great vegetables, seeds, herbs and gorgeous ornamental plants. Take a break with bake-sale items like pumpkin bread and apple muffins. All proceeds benefit the Wrigley Garden, a community garden.
Choose from broccoli, cauliflower, beets and other cool-winter crops. Considered by many to be the best time to garden, fall offers freedom from heat and pests and the possibility of some much-needed rain for natural, no-cost irrigation.
If you’ve been hesitating about starting a garden of your own, here’s your opportunity. In addition to good-for-you vibrant taste and unparalleled convenience, home gardens serve up money-saving opportunities. Why buy your Thanksgiving broccoli, parsley and sage from the store when you can harvest it from your garden? Experienced gardeners will be on hand to answer any questions.
In addition to the vegetables, seeds and herbs, you’ll find unusual and beautiful ornamentals at unbeatable prices. The show-stopping bromeliads, for example, will draw rave reviews from anyone who visits your home.
Since opening this summer, The Wrigley Garden has fed about 40 families from its raised garden beds on the site of two former drug houses. The subject of a recent LA Times article celebrating the positive effects of gardening on the community, The Wrigley Garden is a two-year project located on land owned by the City of Long Beach. Supporters include The Long Beach Neighborhood Foundation, a 501(c)3 corporation, Wrigley is Going Green, The Long Beach Community Foundation, Connected Corridors and the 6th District Council Office. All proceeds from the sale will be used to benefit the garden.

Test Your Green Thumb at the California Native Plant Sale!
California Native Plant Sale at El Dorado Nature Center
On Saturday October 24, 2009 from 9:30 – 2:00 pm, El Dorado Nature Center will be hosting its annual California Native Plant Sale sponsored by Partners of Parks. Most of the plants available are well suited to Southern California’s dry climate and require minimal watering once established. Many have fragrant foliage and bear brightly colored flowers that are attractive to butterflies and birds. All proceeds go to support habitat restoration at the Nature Center. Be sure and come early for best selection. Members of Friends of El Dorado Nature Center may make pre-sale purchases beginning at 9:00 am. Memberships to the Friends of El Dorado Nature Center may be purchased at the event. A $7 vehicle entry fee will be credited toward all purchases of $75 or more.
