Thank you Factory!!

What a weekend.

Saturday at The Factory/Dragster Expo was awesome. I met so many great Long Beach Locals. It was a perfect opportunity to spread the word about Farm Lot 59 and to promote our Sunday Farmers Market. We raised around $300 bucks thanks to Natalie and all her friends.

Sunday at the Farmers Market I was there selling my hand tied arrangements and promoting the farm. I think people are starting to make the connection with local agriculture and local products. Please keep spreading the word about those very important topics and helping us keep our dollars local.

Saturday the 24th we are having a workday at Wrigley Garden from 9:30-1. Our gardeners are being asked to be there at 9 for a quick meeting then its off to do chores followed by a potluck. Should be a great day in the garden. Hope to see you then.

Lookin' for an artist

Hello painters and crafters-

Wrigley Garden has built the cutest little farm stand but it needs a paint job. If any of you creative types are interested I would love hear your ideas. I will be at the garden this Friday if you would like to come down and see it for yourself. I will upload a picture tomorrow.

Earth Week!

Big week planned for all the tree hugging do gooders out there. Wednesday Wrigley Garden along with Green Lab and the Sunday Farmers Market will be at the Civic Center from 11-1:00. We will be giving away seeds and seedlings along with fresh brewed worm tea.

If you have any questions about your garden there will be Master Gardeners there to answer all your gardening questions. Stop by and say hello!

Earth Day Tree Planting

Hello Fellow Tree-Huggers, Wrigley Gardeners and Do Gooders-

Wrigley is Going Green! and the Wrigley Garden in conjunction with Southern California Edison, the City of Long Beach, Office of Sustainability, Councilmember Tonia Reyes Uranga and the neighbors of Taper Street and Fashion Avenue are planting 40 trees on April 24, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. We will meet at 1315 Taper Street, Long Beach, CA 90810—Northwest corner of Taper Street and Fashion Avenue. (Taper street is a small street in West Long Beach: Willow Street west to Santa Fe Avenue north, right on 34th Street, left on Delta Avenue, right on Taper Street.)

In preparation of the tree planting, we will be pre-digging the holes Saturday April 17th at 10:00 a.m.

Please bring a shovel and gloves to each occasion.

First Friday April 2nd

Wrigley Garden will be at First Fridays this Friday April 2nd! At the corner of Bixby and Atlantic we will have a mini farmers market. Wrigley Garden along with the Sunday Farmers Market, Shortnin Bread, Frutos Farms and Gourmet Conspiracy will have a mini Mock Market.

This is a fundraiser for the garden, we will have produce, veggie starts and all sorts of fun stuff for you. See you there.

If you would like to volunteer in our booth please let me know. The more the merrier!

Wrigley Heights Garden & Dog Park Meeting

Hello gardeners-

Today's meeting was canceled due to the rain. It has been rescheduled for March 6th @ 9:00am. I will get back to you with the location as I think they will try to have it at the nearby church in case of inclement weather.

We will need everyone to attend this meeting. If you are one of our gardeners or a supporter of Community Gardens this meeting is a must. We had originally scheduled a work day at Wrigley Garden but will have to move the time up a bit. Our planter box building will now start at 12 instead of the original 10 am. I'm sorry for the change of plans but this meeting is very important in securing the future location of Wrigley Garden.

I will keep you posted as to the location of the meeting but please plan on attending. We need to show up in numbers in support of our project. If you have questions or concerns please call me or come by the garden on MWF to discuss our proposal.

Garage Sale

WRIGLEY GARAGE SALES WEEKEND OF FEBRUARY 27^TH & 28^TH

^{Get your permits now so you can participate in the weekend community garage sale. The permit can be applied for in person at City Hall's Business Licensing Division (4th floor) and a couple of police division locations. Those applying must bring proof of residency such as a current utility bill and a picture ID like a driver's license or passport.}

^{E-mail Wrigleyisgoinggreen@hotmail.com or go to Wrigley Garden on Facebook to register your address to be added on a flyer with a list of participating garage sale addresses to give out at each site. This will allow people to go easily from one sale to another right here in Wrigley.}

^{Many participants are donating a percentage of their proceeds to Wrigley Garden; however, this is not mandatory, just greatly appreciated. :-)}

Get Growing at Long Beach Sunday Market This Weekend

Join the Wrigley Garden for free fruit trees and advice on growing local fruits and vegetables this Sunday, January 17. Supporters of this successful community garden will be on hand from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to pass out free information and answer gardening questions at Long Beach Sunday Market at Longfellow Elementary School, Bixby Road and California Avenue.

Right now is a perfect time is get growing in sunny Long Beach. Whether you’re a new or experienced gardener, drop by and talk to the Wrigley Garden folks about what you’d like to plant—and pick up a bare-root fruit tree before supplies run out. Find out how you can get your own community garden plot.

Long Beach has been ranked No. 3 out of 10 featured cities for having the most urban gardens per capita, according to the Trust for Public Land. Long Beach was among other U.S. cities including Seattle (No. 1), Portland, St. Paul, Honolulu, San Jose, Baltimore, Washington, DC, Anchorage, and Louisville.

Since opening this summer, The Wrigley Garden has fed about 40 families from its raised garden beds on the site of two former drug houses. The subject of a recent LA Times article celebrating the positive effects of gardening on the community, the Wrigley Garden is a two-year project located on land owned by the City of Long Beach. Supporters include The Long Beach Neighborhood Foundation, a 501(c)3 corporation, Wrigley is Going Green, The Long Beach Community Foundation, Connected Corridors and the 6th District Council Office.
