CSA Farm Boxes

Hello good foodies-

I'm sure you heard about the closing of the Sunday Farmers Market in California Heights. Due to high overhead and lack of participation the weekly market is no more. Not to say something else wont be happening in the future but for now you can visit the Thursday FM in North LB or check Local Harvest.org to find a market near you.

The same thing goes for the Farm Stand at Wrigley Garden. Due to lack of participation I am no longer opening the Farm Stand on Friday's. I will however will still be offering fresh produce in the form of a CSA box. Boxes start at $10 and are packed with what's in season. Sorry that at this time I cannot hand pick the box for you, its simply what is available that week. You can add on hand tied flowers or purchase additional items when you come to pick up your box.

We will be starting this Friday October 15th. Please email me @ sashakanno@mac.com if you are interested. The pick up time can vary depending on your availability. I am there from 9-12 so mornings are better but if that does not work for you we can work something out.

Thanks for doing your part to support local agriculture.

Variety of herb's
Swiss Chard

I have been working hard in the greenhouse to get that fall crop ready to go in the ground. We have already started beets, purple sprouting broccoli, rapini, asian greens and lots more salad varieties. Let me know if there is something you are craving and maybe I can grow it for you.

Wrapping up Kickstarter and other exciting things...

Hello Long Beach Local-

I hope you are staying cool and keeping those plants watered, its finally the Southern California summer we are accustomed to and man it is hot. I think the tomatoes are ripening before our very eyes.

Few things coming up that I wanted to share with you.

Farm Stand Fridays at Wrigley Garden, Farm Stand is open. Please stop by for a $10 farm box or you can also purchase veggies individually. Please check the website for details. The purpose of the Farm Stand is to provide not only Long Beach residents but residents immediately surrounding Wrigley Garden with fresh fruits and vegetables. If you would like to participate or sponsor a family please let me know. You can also preorder your box by emailing me and I will reserve one for you.

This Saturday, August 28th will wrap up our fundraising efforts at Kickstarter. If you have not yet pledged to Farm Lot 59 you have 5 days left. As of right now we have raised $10,432 toward the start up of the farm. If you have not viewed Kickstarter or our video please check it out here http://kck.st/aP1hWS. We are doing some amazing things and your financial support is needed. Thank you to everyone who has already pledged, I can't wait to get this farm growing!

Also on Saturday the 28th from 10:00am - 12:00pm is the recognition ceremony for the Peace Garden. Located at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, 1133 Rhea St. Long Beach, CA. If you are interested in starting a community garden or doing a type of neighborhood garden project this is the perfect opportunity to come and meet the experts. I'm proud that Wrigley Garden and Long Beach Local is part of the supporting team for this garden.

Lastly please mark your calendars for November 20th for a street tree planting at Wrigley Garden, 1950 Henderson Ave, 90806. Our friends, Wrigley is Going Green, wrote and was awarded the Neighborhood Partners Program (NPP) grant and will be planting 60 street trees. Our goal for this tree planting is to leave something beautiful behind after our garden has moved on. We are also planning on having a BBQ/ pot luck this day. Please get in touch if you are interested in volunteering for this event or would like to help organize the BBQ. More information will become available as the date gets closer.

Thank you for being supportive in everything we are doing. It is much appreciated.

Please view our Kickstarter campaign and spread the word. Only 5 more days!!

Farm Stand Friday is BACK!!

Hello gardeners-

My family vacation was wonderful. Thanks to everyone who watched my dogs, chickens and gardens. Its a lot of work and I appreciate the many hands it takes to keep it all alive.

Farm Stand will be open this Friday from 2-6. I hope this will now be a regular thing. It all depends on the produce and the helpers. All proceeds go back to the garden to help pay the bills. We will also be starting seeds next week if anyone wants to help with that. I'm ready to get that next crop in the greenhouse. Oh yeah!

Shout out to all my chicken nerd friends. If you have feed bags can you please save them for me? When you open the bags try and not butcher them so I can reuse them. Bags need to be dry and as clean as possible. Nothing icky please.

Other than that I am working to get Farm Lot 59 up and running. Still working out the insurance, permits etc. I am shooting for September 1st as a start date. I'll keep you posted.

Kickstarter ends in 17 days so please, please pledge and spread the word. We will reach our goal of $10,000 but the more money the better we will be. There are so many things we need. Seeders, irrigation and hopefully a mini tractor. :)

See you Friday at the Farm Stand at Wrigley Garden from 2-6. If you want me to pack a box for you please let me know. Farm boxes are $25 and include our fresh eggs as well as whatever else is in season.

Aloha-
Sasha

Since Fridays seem to be bad for me what day would be good for the farm stand? Wednesdays? Tuesdays?

I'll be making another order soon, let me know what you folks would like to grow. And Thank You to whoever pulled weeds at the Wrigley Garden today. You rock! Tomorrow we will be there from 9-12 pushing mulch around and moving the chicken yard if you want to come back!See you this Friday at the WG for Farm Stand Friday and back again Sunday selling more beautiful flowers and spending time with my friends.

Lookin' for an artist

Hello painters and crafters-

Wrigley Garden has built the cutest little farm stand but it needs a paint job. If any of you creative types are interested I would love hear your ideas. I will be at the garden this Friday if you would like to come down and see it for yourself. I will upload a picture tomorrow.

We pay in produce and yummy jam!

Thanks,
Sasha
